Pikes Peak - Part 2

I took all my pictures on the way up. I blew a lot of time not getting altitude sickness and taking my time. I took a bunch of pictures and will try to post my favorites only. :)

Going up the beginning you can see where the cog train arcs up the base of the mountains.

Along the trail you have sporadic iron signs to help you out. I was nervous about following the wrong trail but these signs were at all the proper crossings. The one below is at 9,800 ft elevation. This is at the halfway point just 1/2 a mile before the Barr Camp.

The Barr Camp looks to be an awesome place to camp. If I had the extra time I would have brought my sleeping bag and canteen. I met Teresa outside and talked with her and three other hikers before heading to the summit.

Nearing the treeline was odd. The landscape took on this look unlike anything you are used to seeing. Dead trees and others flourishing. The air was getting thin and not much was growing or it was growing slowly. The boulders were less and less covered with soil and vegetation. I thought it was very cool.

Looking up at the summit at the edge of the treeline.

Making Bread - part 1 Plain Ole White Bread

The kids and I made some plain ole white bread from scratch today. It is about to bake so I do not know if it came out properly yet. But here is a good picture of the kids kneading the bread. Kai liked how soft the flour was and that he got to punch the dough. Kate liked using measuring spoons in the flour and dumping them on the counter top.

Note: Kai's frontal lobe tattoo is a McDonald's fake tattoo for The Last Airbender. He insisted it be on his forehead.

Pikes Peak - Part 1

June 30th I made it up and down the Barr Trail to Pikes Peak Summit and back to Manitou Springs. round trip was 28 miles. The trailhead of the Barr Trail started in the same place as the Manitou Incline.

There was a spot on the Barr Trail that met up with the Incline. It was the half way "bailout" point. I have no interest in doing the incline. i have enough balance issues as is. I was afraid that if I would do the Incline I would get arrested for trespassing. But by the looks of it, everyone does it. I think I saw around 200 people on the incline that day.

There was a really cool spot were I had to go under some boulders. I put my bike nearby for scale, it is that tiny thing in the shadows.

Cheyenne Mountain Zoo

The gang made it out to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs. It was pricey, but let me tell you that it is worth it. How often do you get to pet giraffes?

Meet Saidi

Saidi (pronounced: Say-dee) is a 7 month old, liver and white, female Brittany. She is a very fast little puppy that likes soft chew toys, or Kai's puppy dog slippers. She loves playing with Smilez.

She is naturally curious about all the activities I am involved in and has already been accepted into the family by the children and Jennie. Approval by Smilez is pending but may be denied.

Most awesome water sprinkler, ever.

Tinker Air Force Base Salute to Stars and Stripes Airshow

Man, it is nice having a camera again. Kai, Kate and I went to the Airshow @ Tinker Air Force Base. It went great except 97 degree temps.

Kai found his favorite 'blue' airplane. I wonder what he is thinking?

We saw my favorite old bird, the Douglas DC-3.

Next year I'll remember cash for the Kidz Zone. :(

cheers,
Jon

Roman Nose Memorial Day Weekend

We had a great trip to Watonga. We got to go swimming, lots of bike rides, fishing, canoeing, BBQ, the whole works!

On our way into town on Saturday we got to watch some crop dusters fly by. And even watch a plane take off from the big ole Watonga Regional Airpark.

We dropped into town 5 minutes before some sort of parade just happened to start. It was great! The kids got to see shriners, old cars, get a stock of candy and Uncle Sam go penny farthing.

Kate's Babies Get a New Mode of Transporation

But before the babies use it, we have to "test" it.

You may notice Kate got a knock on her knoggin' that matches Daddy's. Little boys and girls shouldn't climb on train tables. She fell through the table and bonker her head on the edge of one of the table boards. It mirrors mine. What can I say? Daddy's little girl I suppose.
